The encylopedia was a project by the Warsaw scholar and journalist Symcha Petrushka [Pietruska] (1893-1950). It was originally published in 1943. This second edition was published in 1949 and was revised to encompass the Holocaust and the establishment of the State of Israel and summaries on the Holocaust and State of Israel were appended to each volume. See Brisman - A History and Guide to Judaic Encyclopedias and Lexicons (1987) page 61. According to Brisman Petrushka's Yidishe Folks-Entsiklopedye remains even now the only complete Jewish Encylopedia in Yiddish.

Cloth 186 pp text in Yiddish. Illustrated. Pictorial covers on boards, one side is in Yiddish the other is in Russian there is a small abrasion on the Yiddish cover otherwise and some age browning to pages else very good. A Russian edition came out a year later. ( I could not find a copy of the Yiddish edition on Copac or Worldcat). Agurskii was a Communist Party figure and historian.

This poster, issued by the United States Food Administration, engages in moral exhortation, intimating to newly naturalized citizens the way to repay America for its kindness, is by supporting the Allies in the war effort: "You come here to find freedom. Now you must help defend it. We must supply the Allies with wheat. Do not let anything go to waste."
